Vegetarianism

I am a self-proclaimed naturefreak, yet I eat meat. People ask me why sometimes. I personally see few reasons to "go veggie".
"meat is bad for you"...Humans are built to eat and process meat, so there is no reason to say that meat is bad for you in a normal life. People shouldn't be eating tons of fat if they aren't running around in the cold all the time, nor should you be eating pure protein all the time. It's really not that hard to find a balance in there somewhere, people!
"animals feel pain"...so we should convince dogs, cats, sharks, and chimps not to eat meat, either? Things die, things are eaten. Living things must feed other living things. That's just how it works. Pain isn't going to suddenly disappear from the world.
"the meat we eat had/has a soul"...well, so much for that. I just ate it. sorry, mate.
"today's meat comes from gigantic icky factories that are terrible and ack"...this is so true, which is the only good reason I can imagine someone might come up with. Lots of people do not have or are not aware of places that sell local meats that were taken care of on the farm and shipped a few miles into town. Lucky for me I live near a place that sells good local meat that wasn't totally petrified when it died and didn't go through a ton of either overly-chemicaled or under-sanitized machinery before arriving medium-rare to my plate.
I hope that someday Temple Grandin will convert all meat-processing places so that vegetarians, excluding those who have actual dietary restrictions or religious duties (they'll figure it out sooner or later) can go back to being the happy omnivores humans are.

I find this very interesting. For at least two and a half months this year I was a vegetarian. On the grounds of animal cruelty (more so on the methods of slaughter). But also that by going 'veggie' it liberated me from dealing with my family during dinner; which was something I found superficial, hypocritical, annoying, etc. But when I was 'veggie' I was allowed to eat when I wanted and not at 'meal-time.' The only reason I went off 'veggie' is because I had to for health reasons, and not because I wanted to.

I love music!
